Via Dinarica Trail
Via Dinarica hiking trail promotes responsible tourism across the Western Balkans countries. The trail which spans nearly 2000km is a cultural corridor and connects countries and communities along the Dinaric Alps , by spotlighting the region’s landscape and its diverse traditions. Kosovo part of Via Dinarica trail is a combination of outdoor paradise and living museum dedicated to a culture which has long since passed from the rest of the continent. Activities in Kosovo include world class hiking, mountain biking, cave trekking and exploration, via ferrata climbing, zip line, snowshoeing and ski-touring and skiing exclusive to Top Balkan Tours.
We can also combine and extend Kosovo part of Via Dinarica hiking trail with north Albanian part, like Valbona valley, Thethi Village, Komani lake ferry, etc. The final goal of Via Dinarica was and is to make connections between cities and rural communities in the region, raise awareness about good business practices and environmental protection, promote responsible tourism across Western Balkans and to assist a blossoming tourism offer across the Peninsula, which relies on nature, traditional products and its unique cultural heritage. The Dinaric Alps is one of the Europe’s least explored mountain ranges, runs through the heart of the Western Balkans. The Kosovo part of the trail can last from 5 to 10 days and it starts from city of Peja, hiking across Rusolija mountain range, Hajla mountain, Liqenati mountain lakes, Three Border Peak and Gjeravica mountain- top of Kosovo from where you will be taking transport up to the city of Prizren next to Sharri mountain range and finish in Prishtina –capital of Kosovo.

Arrive in Prishtina international airport (PRN), Kosovo. Your trip leader will meet you outside of the customs and immigration area at the airport. He or she will answer questions, brief you on the immediate arrangements, and escort you to western city of Peja, known as a capital of great outdoors. Accommodation and dinner at the 3 star hotel close to the city center.
Transport (40min) to the starting point of the hike the first stage from Rusolija mountain known as nature reserve of Edelwise flower, to Hajla mountain, from where we will have magnificent and panoramic views towards the rest of Accursed mountains peaks and Rugova valley. We will hike through remote valley between Rusolia and Zhleb mountain an very close to Montenegro border. Accommodation at Hajla alpine house and dinner. Starting at 1600m, Hajla 1920m. -Moderate walk / 8-9hrs walk including breaks / +850m, -350m / 18.5km
Short transport at Liqenati mountain huts, and from here we’ll hike the second stage through beautiful Liqenati mountain lakes and Shkodra overpass, we walk through a pine forest and over the mountain pass for a great view towards Milisheci mountain peaks. Overnight stay and dinner at the family run guesthouse with traditional home cooking. Liqenati 1460m, Milisheci-1780m. -Moderate hike/ +740m, -420m / 7-8hrs walk including breaks, 16km.
This part of the hike passes through the long valley of Roshkodol to Mariashi pass at 2200m altitude. Beautiful high mountain scenery all year round. Overnight sleep and dinner at Belegu guesthouse well-hidden between pine trees. Start at 1780m, finish at 1800m. -Moderate hike / +750m, -550m / 4-5hrs walk including breaks, 12km.
Today we’ll hike through Three-Border Peak (KS-AL-MNE) towards Doberdol high alpine remote village in Albania. Overnight stay and dinner with home-made dishes in one of the best stone made typical guesthouses in this part of Dinaric Alps. Belegu mountain1800m, Doberdol 1820m. -Easy hike / +600m, -600m / 4-5hrs walk including breaks, 13km.
This section we’ll lead us along the whole length of Doberdol valley known as a “Teletubbies land” crossing via high mountain pass and “Heart Lake” before getting to Gjeravica ridge and highest point in Kosovo at 2656m. Return via the Small and Big Gjeravica lakes, along the old border patrol path to Gacaferri mountain huts. From here we will take 4×4 transport with legendary Land Rover Defenders to the old part of Gjakova town. Doberdol 1820m, Gacaferri huts 1800m. -Moderate hike, 7-8hrs walk including breaks / +900m, -920m / 19.5km.
Transport to the airport for your departure flight (depending on your flight time we can visit the Grand Bazaar in Gjakova, etc).
