Hajla Peak 2403m
- Hajla is a mountain located between the borders of Kosovo and Montenegro.
>It has several peaks that reach over 2,000 m (6,562 ft), the tallest with a hight of 2,403 m (7,884 ft).
>The northern slopes contains the spring formation of the Ibar river, and to its southern slopes is the origin of the Bistrica e Pejës river. Hajla is also the tallest mountain in the northern part of the Accursed Mountains of the Balkans. In Kosovo, Hajla forms part of the 25 km (16 mi) long Rugova Canyon. The closest city to Hajla is Rožaje, in Montenegro and Peje in Kosovo.
Climb to Hajla
- To climb there a local guide is always preferred, from there you can see many peaks and cities, half belongs to Montenegro and half to Kosovo!
We suggest start by transport from Peja town or any Hotel where are you staying and this amazing trail starts from many different villages, the village of Pepaj to give you an excellent walk and a panoramic view of the mountains of Rugova valley.
>Also this trail is part of international hiking trails Peaks of the Balkansand Via Dinarica, which continue from here towards Montenegro and Albanian part of Accursed Mountains.
- The geological composition of this mountain varies in limestone and volcanic silicates, which created a jagged relief and variety of formations, so that this mountain overall, by form and content can be considered one of the most beautiful mountains of Montenegro.
>This geological composition and the climate of the HAJLA range have created a rich floral world, among which there are many endemic species.
>There is first of all, the “Molika” endemic pine (Pinus peuce), “Ibrisim” carnation (Dianthus superbus), Aconitum pendtneri, Onobrychis scardica, Hedysarum silicii, Leondtopodium nivale and Wulfenia blecicii.
How to get Hajla?
From Prishtina Airport you can get there by car, taxi or bus.
The city of Prishtina you can come by train, bus or taxi!
You can get to Peja by bus that leaves for Rugova at 08 am or by taxi!
- After you finish the hike you can get a lunch to try a traditional table, food of Rugova’s, and we suggest a family restaurant there ‘’’Chalet Kujta’’ which is better to book in advance!
