Prizeren
Prizren Fortress
The Prizren fortress is named Kalaja e Prizrenit in Albanian.
Prizren Castle is a cultural heritage monument in Prizren, Kosovo. Prizren Castle is considered to be the symbol of the city of Prizren and an important element in the cultural identity of Kosovo.
Prizren Castle is built on a very high hill, in a picturesque environment and in an extremely strategic position, the Castle rises above the city as well as over the deep valley of the Bardhi River and the plain of Dukagjin. The castle has its beginnings in the first period of civilization of this region, in prehistory, with a continuous development in the Byzantine and Ottoman periods. It was used exclusively as a fort until 1912. The fort is now significantly damaged and is on the World Heritage in Danger list. An alley from the city center leads to the castle, it takes about 15 minutes to walk, and you can enjoy the full view of the city, take pictures or just watch the sun go down.
The Mosque of Sinan Pasha is located in the historical area of Prizren, it was built in 1615 by Sofi Sinan Pasha – an outstanding person, a man of knowledge, with an important position in the Ottoman administration. The mosque served religious needs until 1912. During the Ballanic wars and the First World War, the mosque was used as a warehouse for ammunition.
In 2011, the mosque of Sinan Pasha, after a long period, was opened again for service to the faithful.
Beautiful bridge leading to the center of Prizren, great to take pictures and of course an important historic landmark.
The bridge is lovely, but it is the ensemble of the historic Ottoman town, including the mosque, of which it is the center, that makes it so special. It is particularly well maintained and preserved, with a very good but not overbearing tourism infrastructure, and certainly the cultural center, in an architectural sense, of the country of Kosova. A trip is strongly recommended, but urban beauty is not one of them
